Travel writer and expert Stephen Stepaniuk is always at the forefront of travel trends, and with the new year starting he’s sharing his top six travel destinations for 2019. Stephen has included destinations that range from the exotic and remote to places that are well within reach of a major United States airport.
1. Cambodia
Cambodia has long been a travel destination for those that wanted a real adventure travel experience, but in the last decade Cambodia has turned up the charm and turned into a destination for those who love luxury as well. Angkor Wat, the ancient historic temple, has been a draw for as long as travelers have been visiting the East, but Cambodia now sports top notch luxury destinations as well. Four-star accomidations, spas, and delicious food are all reasons to head to the newly opened Shinta Mani Wild, just three hours south of Phenom Phen. Cambodia is also still relatively inexpensive, once you get there at least.
2. The Flordia Keys
The Florida Keys are bouncing back from Hurricane Irma’s destruction with aplomb. This means that the keys are full of new hotels and restaurants. As always the Keys sport tons of fun for families and couples alike. The Keys are also populated by many of America’s favorite characters; you may run into Jimmy Buffet or Judy Blume while you’re visiting. Both own businesses in the Keys. America’s own tropical playground is back in business!
3. Helsinki
Stephen Stepaniuk calls Helsinki, Finland one of his favorite destinations. Helsikni has been called Europe’s “most under-rated design capital” and it does not disappoint. Art, architecture and museums are plentiful. A few years ago the World Design Organization named the city a World Design Capital, and Helsinki then opened their stunning design museum. Anyone who is a fan of design should put Helsinki at the top of their list.
4. Panama
Experienced travelers are still scratching their heads over Panama. Panama’s beauty, culture and excitement is overlooked again and again in travel writing. As 2019 is the 500th anniversary of Panama, Stephen thinks that this is the year to visit it! Celebrations, exhibits, and historical displays will be ongoing throughout the year, and this rich, beautiful country has so much to discover.
5. Nashville, Tennessee
Nashville is starting to have a real reputation as a tourist destination. Its central location makes it easily accessible to most of the country. It’s temperate climate makes it pleasant year round, and it’s hot restaurant scene is quickly putting it at the center of American cuisine. Nashville has something for everyone; stunning natural beauty, a happening and influential music community (Taylor Swift used to perform at coffee shops around town), delicious and creative food options, and fun places to stay. If you want to venture further out of town Dollywood isn’t far away!
6. Namibia
For those who don’t count travel as an adventure unless they come face to face with wildlife, Namibia should be at the top of your 2019 travel list. Parts of the country that were, until very recently, almost impossible to access are now populated with luxury lodges and travel across the country is easier than ever. The stunning vistas and amazing experience of Namibia will stick with you for a lifetime.
